5 Great Actors Who Star In Bad Movies

Forest Whittaker

Academy Awards: Best Actor win for "The Last King of Scotland"

Movies He Should Regret Doing: Lee Daniels' The Butler, The Last Stand, Vantage Point, Repo Men, Battlefield Earth, a bunch of movies I've never even heard of while scrolling his IMDB page

What's Up?: It's clear Whittaker can act. He's been doing it and working ever since 1982 and "Fast Times at Ridgemont High". You don't last this long in Hollywood (and doing it with a bum eye) without being a great actor. But as great of an actor as Whittaker is, he does not take the best roles.

Colin Farrell

Good Roles: Seven Psychopaths, In Bruges

Movies He Should Regret Doing: Total Recall, Alexander, S.W.A.T., Daredevil

What's Up?: "Look at Colin Farrell, he hasn't made a good movie ever, but he has the perception of being a movie star!" -Ari Gold, Entourage- I do think there's something to making Colin Farrell good, and mainly he should just work with director Martin McDonagh for every project a la DeNiro and Scorsese. There is a certain talent and a certain je ne sais quoi from Farrell that only certain directors can get from him, but when those directors DO get that thing from him, it's pretty darn impressive.

Cate Blanchett

Academy Awards: Wins for Blue Jasmine & The Aviator, Nominations for Elizabeth, Notes on a Scandal, I'm Not There

Boring Movies: All of her films

What's Up?: I guess there's technically no movie she should regret doing, but I can't find a single movie she's done that I ever want to see again either. And yes, that ABSOLUTELY include the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I've heard she's brilliant in 2013's Blue Jasmine, but there's nothing in the world that would make me want to see the film either. She may be a great actress, but that doesn't mean she makes movies we actually want to watch. I do blame Hollywood more than Blanchett herself; there's not a lot of great movie roles for actress her age that are actually good movies as well. Oh well, she'll just have to bask in her consolidation prize of critical success and to continually work.

Justin Timberlake

Good Roles: The Social Network

Bad Movies: Runner Runner, In Time, Trouble With the Curve, Yogi Bear, The Love Guru, Southland Tales

What's Up?: I think Timberlake is extremely charismatic and charming and definitely has the "IT" factor. There's a reason there's always huge buzz whenever Timberlake hosts SNL. But the problem is that his movies have not only been terrible, they've been a commercial disappointment. "In Time" made 37 million but cost about 40 million. Still a loss. "Runner Runner" cost 30 million to make and only brought in 19 million. At some point, the Hollywood execs take notice and just stop casting him in major motion pictures. I don't think there's a coincidence that Timberlake finally put out an album after a five year hiatus- which included the aforementioned "bad movies".

Josh Brolin

Academy Awards: Best Supporting Actor for "Milk"

Movies He Should Regret: Oldboy, Gangster Squad, Jonah Hex, Men In Black: 3, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, Milk, W., No Country For Old Men, Hollow Man, The Mod Squad

What's Up?: Josh Brolin is the king of good actors starring in bad films. I think he's extremely talented and he's a great actor, but I don't think there's a single film outside out his debut in "The Goonies" that's even remotely worth watching. Brolin is the reason that this list exists in the first place.
