The Top 10 Best Reactions on Twitter to the How I Met Your Mother Finale

Tonight was the series finale to one of my favorite sitcoms: How I Met Your Mother. While I personally strongly disliked it, many people on Twitter seem to be defending it. Or yelling at people for hating it. Or upset the Pineapple Incident wasn't explained. To my surprise, there was not a lot of hate over the finale on Twitter. There were WAY more people yelling at those who hated the finale rather than outrage for the finale itself. But since I didn't like it, and just saying you liked it isn't very interesting, here are the top 10 best reactions on Twitter to the How I Met Your Mother finale:

10. Only one explanation: the finale was written after 2 AM. Nothing good happens after 2 AM
-@emsamblador-

9. Ted met his wife romantically and I'm gonna meet mine on Tinder #yolo -@rizstain-

8. Thankfully I will have something uplifting  in #GameOfThrones premiere next week after #HIMYMFinale -@theladyrohn-

7. After the #HIMYMFinale, Michael Vick is now the FOURTH most hated thing in America -@dgbottom-

6. Turns out the final slap was the writer's slapping the viewers in the face -@Munkie91087-

5. THIS IS ALL PATRICE'S FAULT! -@JJBirdd-

4. You would think the How I Met Your Mother finale would show Ted Mosby's wife licking wedding invitations or something? -@PatrickNotaro-

3. Haaaaave you met Ted? Yes but now I wish I hadn't -@TeamHellions-

2. Pretty much what the show should have been called: How I Met Your Mother Still Want To Bone Your Aunt Robin -@ilipen-

1. The #HIMYMFinale was Legen... wait for it... awful -@calonzoAZ-

BONUS FROM FACEBOOK (Rebecca Rosen): The finale was a major disappointment. Major Disappointment! *salute*

What did you think of the How I Met Your Mother series finale?

The Top 25 Best TV Shows Currently Streaming on Netflix*

THE TOP 10 BEST T.V. DRAMAS CURRENTLY STREAMING ON NETFLIX*

10) Lost (2004-2010) (ABC)
Created By: J.J. Abrams
Showrunners: Damon Lindelof & Jeffrey Leiber
GRADE: B-
Seasons Available to Stream: 6

Brief Description: The first 2 seasons of the show are great, and frankly, if you stropped there, you'd be fine. The show kind of goes off the rails after Season 3, but overall, a great show to finally catch up on if you missed it when it originally aired.

9) Heroes (2006-2010) (NBC)
Created By: Tim Kring
GRADE: B-
Seasons Available to Stream: 4

Brief Description: With the Heroes Reborn mini-series coming out in 2015, you should catch up on the original show today. The first season is by far the best season, and even though creator Tim Kring does have a problem with finales, and if you completely throw out the second season which was marred by the writer's strike, then you get a solid show.

The 10 Best How I Met Your Mother Episodes Of All Time

How I Met Your Mother is ending on Monday. It will leave with a bittersweet legacy. The first five seasons of the show are some of the greatest seasons of comedy sitcom gold you will ever find, and if the show ended then, it would go down as one of the greatest sitcoms of all time. Unfortunately, the show did not end after 5 seasons. It's ending after 9. And the final four seasons are excruciatingly bad and painful. Especially considering the potential it failed to live up to. The shows creators, Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, took the title of the show way too literally, and refused to introduce "The Mother" until the last last possible moment. So what the audience received was tired, lazy, and outdated story lines while the characters turned into cartoon characters of their former self in the later years.

But I'll choose to remember HIMYM in the most positive light possible. I'll remember it for the good, and block out the bad. So in reverence of the show, here is my personal list of the 10 best How I Met Your Mother episodes of all time.

Too Early 2014 Primetime Emmy Nomination Predictions

The news for which shows will throw their hat into which ring for the 2014 Primetime Emmys seems to be racking up these days. Recently, HBO stated that True Detective will enter into the Drama categories as opposed to the Miniseries categories (if American Horror Story is any precedent, the show could have done that and swept them all no problem). This news is coming on the heels that Netflix will throw Orange Is The New Black into the comedy specter after it's failed attempts in other award shows, like the Golden Globes, to be a drama. Lastly, Showtime's Shameless has decided that it's 4th season will be a comedy after 3 failed attempts at earning drama nominations from the Emmys

With all of this news in mind, here are my predictions for who and what will earn a nomination at the 2014 Emmy Awards. Even though many eligible shows like Mad Men and Game of Thrones haven't even aired yet, I'm still pretty confident in my selections.

2014 Fantasy Baseball Preview: Proven Player Off Of A Bad Year

Fantasy baseball, and really all fantasy sports, is all about finding value when it comes to your draft. You not only need your first round draft pick (or high auction pick) to perform like the price you paid for him, but your later round picks need to outperform the price you paid for that pick. Frankly, you'd like all of your picks to outperform their value.

One of the most consistent predictors of players outperforming their value are players who have consistently done well, but are coming off of a bad year aka Proven Player Off Of A Bad Year. Players generally perform to their true level. However, every once in a while, players have a bad year. It happens. However, rankings are done heavily weighting how a player performed in the previous season. Last season can be a good predictor of how well a player performs this year, but the better predictor is the players' entire career. This creates value pick for many players.

Here are a list of players that I think are value picks for the 2013 season, because they are a proven player coming off of a bad year:

5 TV Shows That Failed To Capitalize On Great Storylines

5) Homeland- Brody Dies At The End Of Season 1

WHAT REALLY HAPPENED: Brody tries to kill himself in a suicide bombing but his vest malfunctions, so Brody survives for 2 more dreadful seasons.

WHY THIS STORY LINE SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED: This is an easy one, so I'll get it out of the way first. I also don't fault Homeland's show runners Alex Gansa and Howard Gordan for wanting Damian Lewis (the actor who played Nicholas Brody) to stay on their show. Lewis won the Emmy for Best Actor at the Emmys in 2012, and he deserved it. He was fantastic in Homeland's rookie season, and if you were running Homeland, you'd probably want this great actor to stay on as long as possible. Vince Gilligan was planning on killing off Aaron Paul's Jesse Pinkman during Season 1 of Breaking Bad, but didn't because he realized what a great actor Paul was and what a gem he had on his hands. Gansa and Gordon probably thought they had the same thing with Lewis. And the fact that Brody didn't actually blow up didn't change how great Season 1 of Homeland was.

However, Brody's existence did change how "good" (a term I use very loosely) Seasons 2 & 3 of Homeland was. Now there were many problems with the later season of Homeland that have absolutely nothing to do with Brody, but the fact that he was around and the writers were shoehorning him with scenes with Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes) didn't help anything either. Plus, the reason Lewis was such a great actor and performed so well in Season 1 was because you weren't sure what side he was on. After Season 1, not only was his side very clear, but he wasn't given any nuances to work with.

Trailer Preview: 2014 Films

THE GOOD

Guardians Of The Galaxy (Release Date: August 1)

WHY IT'S GOOD: The "Guardians of the Galaxy" is one of Marvel's "weirder" properties, and that's putting it nicely. When this project was first announced, it seemed like a silly idea for a movie. However, this trailer puts all doubts to rest. The trailer not only perfectly explains who these characters are and gives us some semblance of this world, but also makes you genuinely excited to see this funny, action-adventure blockbuster.

Neighbors (Release Date: May 9)

WHY IT'S GOOD: Because it's downright hilarious. Even though Seth Rogen neither wrote nor directed this film, it still looks like a film that will go up with his other comedy classics.

The Boxtrolls (Release Date: September 26)

WHY IT'S GOOD: This is an example where the movie doesn't necessarily excite me, but I can recognize a great trailer for what it is. Not only is the song incredible and perfect (Ritchie Young's version of "He's Got The Whole World In His Hands"), but the trailer does something bold. It sets up this world while marking it very hard to criticize it. By showing the incredibly, intricate detail Laika put into this movie, it's difficult to just say the movie is "bad", because the backlash of "look how hard they worked on this film" will blow up in your face. When you watch a movie, you care about the story and the characters. If neither are there, who cares about the detail you see on-screen? But this trailer puts the hard work and effort the people making this movie front and center, which can only help the movie and whatever criticism it may take.

5 Hit Songs Written Because The Artist Hated Their Record Label

5) The Ting Tings "That's Not My Name"

WHAT YOU THINK THE SONG IS ABOUT: Guys trying to pick up lead singer Katie White, but they're too drunk to remember what her name is.

WHAT IT'S ACTUALLY ABOUT: Soon after signing with Mercury records, the execs who signed the Ting Tings left the label, and the band was ultimately dropped. Out of that frustration of being dropped came this catchy as hell #1 single.

QUOTES: "You feel like your career's over at 22 and you haven't even gotten a record out. It was like, you really are that forgettable unless you put your stamp on something" -Katie White-

"We were really frustrated because we had been in a band before and been dumped by our label. Back at the time, we weren't specifically trying to write a song about anything. We were just trying to have fun with it. But when we look back at the lyrics we realize they're all about frustration. In a way, she's saying she wants to be heard. She wants people to know her name." -Jules De Martino, the second half of the band-

LYRICS:

Four letter word just to get me along / It's a difficulty and I'm biting my tongue and I / I keep stalling, keeping me together / People around gotta find something to say now

4) Eminem "The Way I Am"

WHAT YOU THINK THIS SONG IS ABOUT: Eminem hating the world because they refuse to accept Eminem for the way he is. Plus, this song was released 2000, of course Em is mad at SOMETHING.

WHAT IT'S ACTUALLY ABOUT: The pressure the record label placed on Eminem to create a hit lead single to promote his new album, The Marshall Mathers LP.

Eminem albums tend to be long with many songs. Especially his first two records. The Marshall Mathers LP (his second record) had 18 tracks on it! Part of the reason it had so many tracks, is that Eminem created an album he was proud of, but his record label said it needed at least more song on it- a song like "My Name Is". It needed a pop friendly song to be the album's first single. Needless to say, Eminem was upset when he heard this. Not only did he think he was done with his album, but he's Eminem. So he went into the studio and recorded a variety of angry tracks- one of which was "The Way I Am." He eventually produced the song his record label was looking for, "The Real Slim Shady", but not after spewing out a few more angry songs first.

LYRICS:

I'm so sick and tired of being admired / That I wish that I would just die or get fired / and dropped from my label / Let's stop with the fables / I'm not gonna be able to top on My Name Is

Toby Gerhart's Fantasy Value For 2014

On March 12, 2014, former Minnesota Vikings running back signed a 3 year deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars. As of right now, Maurice Jones-Drew, the Jaguars starting RB for the past few years, is an unrestricted free agent, and has not signed anywhere. It's certainly possible Jones-Drew resigns with Jacksonville, but I think it's pretty unlikely. It's also possible that Jacksonville drafts a running back or signs another RB in free agency, but let's assume that Gerhart ends up being the starting running back for the 2014 Jacksonville Jaguars. How is he likely to fare?

Well, let's first look at Toby Gerhart himself. I think he comes with the pedigree. He's 6 foot, 234 lbs. He was a great running back in Stanford. He ultimately lost the Heisman vote back in 2009 to Alabama's Mark Ingram, even though he led the NCAA that year in rushing yards and rushing TDs. I remember thinking at the time that Gerhart should have won the Heisman, and I personally suspected racial bias against Gerhart (but that's just speculation). He was then drafted in the 2nd round of the 2010 draft to the Minnesota Vikings.

Gerhart spent 4 years as a Minnesota Viking, mostly playing back up to the greatest RB of this generation- Adrian Peterson. In his limited time, Gerhart has a career 4.7 YPC. He also has decent hands catching 77 passes in his career. Gerhart has started 6 games in his career, one in 2010, and 5 in 2011. In the five games Gerhart started in 2011, he got 83 carries for 401 yards. That's good for a 4.831 YPC- basically the same as his career YPC.

I think it's safe to assume that Gerhart is a 4.7 YPC guy.

The Top 10 Best Animated Movies Currently Streaming on Netflix*

10) Hercules (1997)
Starring: Tate Donovan, Danny DeVito, & James Woods
STARS: 3 out of 4

Brief Description: The first Disney film based off of Greek mythology takes some liberties with story (i.e. Hercules is born to the Gods then given a potion to make him almost mortal. I guess having Zeus rape a woman wasn't appropriate for Disney), but it's a solid Disney flick the whole family can enjoy.

9) Mulan (1998)
Starring: Ming-Na Wen, B.D. Wong, & Eddie Murphy
STARS: 3 out of 4

Brief Description: "I'll Make A Man Out Of You" is one of my all time favorite Disney songs. That's probably because in my Freshman World History class, when my teacher started to discuss Attila The Hun, a good friend of mine burst out into song singing, "Let's get down to business/ To defeat the huns!"

The Top 10 Films of 2013 (Redux)

10) Fruitvale Station
Directed By: Ryan Coogler
Starring: Michael B. Jordan, Melonie Diaz, & Octavia Spencer
STARS: 3 out of 4

Brief Description: This film takes an unflinching look at the last day Oscar Grant (Jordan) lives before his brutal murder on New Year's Eve in 2008. Analogous to Zero Dark Thirty, the third act is spectacular and makes the film.

9) Frozen
Directed By: Chris Buck & Jennifer Lee
Starring: Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, & Josh Gad
STARS: 3.5 out of 4

Brief Description: Frozen is Disney's adaptation of The Snow Queen, with some excellent songs. If this film was made in the 90's around the same time as The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast, Frozen would be an instant classic right along with them.

10 "Quick" Reactions to the 2014 Academy Award Winners

1) Gravity was the big winner at last night's Academy Awards. It walked away with the most awards- seven, including: Best Director (Alfonso Cuarson). The vast majority of the Oscars are technical awards; it's why The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King and Titanic were able to walk away with a bajillion awards. Therefore, it should be no surprise that the biggest technical achievement of the year took home so many Golden Statutes. As a good friend of mine stated for his Oscar pool, "when it doubt, just pick Gravity" It also won Best Cinematography, Best Visual Effects, Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing, Best Film Editing, and Best Score.

2) 12 Years A Slave won Best Picture (thus giving director Steve McQueen and Brad Pitt Oscar wins). The film won 2 other awards including Best Adapted Screenplay (John Ridley) and Best Supporting Actress (Lupita Nyong'o) I don't have an inherent problem with the latter two, but I strongly disliked the movie 12 Years A Slave as a whole. Just from a film making perspective, it was just "eh". If you didn't fall asleep in the middle of the film and constantly look at your phone, then you're lying. If it was truly between Gravity and 12 Years A Slave, it's Gravity for the win for me.

The Best and Worst of the 2014 Academy Awards

I love the Academy Awards. For any bitching and moaning that I do, I do it because I love this award show so much. The winners of each Oscar category gets their name etched in stone forever, and I just want that etching to be correct. Oh yeah, and the award ceremony itself can be fun as well. Here are my brief thoughts:

WINNER: Gravity

Gravity walked away with 7 total Oscars, the most out of any movie of the night, including Best Picture, Best Visual Effects, and Best Score. Plus, Alfonso Cuaron's acceptance speech was just fabulous, funny, and heartfelt. Oh, and bringing in a bajillion dollars in box office sales doesn't hurt either.

LOSER: John Travolta

Say it with me Johnny, "Eye-Dee-Na Man-Zell". You had one job! If Jennifer Lawrence could learn to properly pronounce "Chiwetel Ejiofor" along with four other names, then you can learn to pronounce the wonderful singer you're introducing.
